The predecessor of Changhua County was the southern part of Zhuluo County during the Qing Dynasty. In the first year of Emperor Yongzheng's reign (1723), a county was established in the "Banxian" area, hence the ancient place name of Changhua County is Banxian. The name Banxian originates from the transliteration of the settlement name of the local Pingpu indigenous Babusa tribe. The Qing Dynasty renamed "Banxian" to "Changhua," signifying "promoting the teachings of the imperial court."

Petrified wood jade, also known as fossilized wood jade, is silicified wood that has been mineralized into jade. Its main components are opal and chalcedony, with a Mohs hardness of 7.4. It formed between the Carboniferous period of the Paleozoic Era and the Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic Era. Primitive forests, under high-pressure, low-temperature conditions, underwent silicification by silica replacement to form silicified wood, which was later recrystallized through metamorphism into petrified wood jade. Therefore, it is crystal clear and distinct from ordinary silicified wood.

"Guihua" can refer to multiple locations. If it refers to the former name of Hohhot city, it is in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of present-day China. If it refers to Guihua County in Fujian, it is in present-day Fujian Province. Additionally, historically, there were Guihua Counties established in Shanxi, Henan, and Guangxi, as well as Guihua Direct Sub-prefecture established in present-day Vietnam during the Ming Dynasty.

Changhua has both a county and a city. Changhua County is a "county" in central Taiwan, while Changhua City is the "county seat" of that county, meaning it is the city where the county government is located, and it is also a county-administered city.
