You can reach the Oki Islands by ferry. Standard ferries like Ferry Oki, Ferry Kuniga, and Ferry Shirashima, along with the fast ferry Rainbow Jet, operate from Shichirui Port in Shimane Prefecture and Sakaiminato Port in Tottori Prefecture. If Dogo Island is your destination, take Ferry Oki.

The Oki Islands are geologically unique as they feature a submarine caldera, a caldera that lies beneath the sea. This rare geological formation is also famously found on the island of Santorini in Greece. Historically, the islands of Japan, including Oki, were once connected to the Eurasian continent.

The exceptionally clear waters surrounding the Oki Islands are perfect for water activities such as swimming, snorkelling, kayaking, and fishing. You can also take scuba diving lessons or rent gear for solo dives if you are an experienced diver. The rugged coastline offers many scenic spots for walking and strolling.

The primary language spoken in Japan, including the Oki Islands, is Japanese. While there are regional dialects, standard Japanese is understood and used.

The best time to visit the Oki Islands is typically during the spring (April to May) and autumn (September to November) when the weather is pleasant for outdoor activities and the scenery is at its most beautiful. Summer offers warm weather ideal for water sports but can be more crowded.
