The Yayoi Trail on Mount Iwaki is an out-and-back trail covering 6.6 miles with an elevation gain of 4,422 feet. Completing this hike typically takes about 7 to 7.5 hours.

Mount Iwaki has been active frequently in historic times, with its summit crater being two kilometers wide. It features three lava domes on its western and southern flanks and experienced very frequent activity consisting mostly of small to moderate phreatic explosions during the Edo period.

Mount Iwaki, the highest peak in Aomori, is affectionately called Tsugaru Fuji due to its beautiful conical shape. It holds deep spiritual significance for the local people and has long been an object of worship.

Researchers have identified several animal species on Mount Iwaki, including Golden Eagles, Japanese crayfish (Zarigani), and the Black Woodpecker.

The best time to visit Mount Iwaki for hiking is generally from late spring to autumn. During these seasons, trails are typically clear of snow, and the weather is more conducive for outdoor activities, offering spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.
