Hyogo, Japan is renowned for its UNESCO World Heritage site, Himeji Castle, and the world-famous Kobe beef. The prefecture also boasts numerous onsen (hot springs) like Kinosaki Onsen, the vibrant port city of Kobe, the impressive Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, the Takarazuka Revue, and high-quality sake production. Key attractions include the magnificent Himeji Castle, Kobe's international port and modern harbor area, and historic districts with foreign residences. Hyogo is also home to nationally famous hot spring towns such as Kinosaki Onsen and Arima Onsen, one of Japan's oldest hot springs.

To fully experience Hyogo, it's recommended to spend at least two days in Kobe city if you wish to explore its central attractions. If you plan to include day trips to places like Awaji Island or Himeji Castle, allocating three days for Hyogo would be more appropriate for a broader exploration.

Hyogo Prefecture offers many affordable attractions that can be enjoyed even on a tight budget. In Kobe, visitors can experience stunning "million-dollar" night views for free from the Kobe City Hall 24th Floor Observation Lobby. Additionally, admission to the Kobe Kitano Ijinkan-Gai district is either free or very inexpensive.

Hyogo and Kobe are closely related but not the same. Kobe is the capital city of Hyogo Prefecture and is located across the bay from Osaka. It is Japan's sixth-largest city.

The most iconic historical site in Hyogo is Himeji Castle, a magnificent white-walled fortress and a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its beauty and preservation. Visitors can also explore the Kitano Ijinkan-Gai district in Kobe, which features historic foreign residences, offering a glimpse into the area's past as an international port.
