This walking tour offers an alternative perspective on ancient Greek and Roman history, guided by a trained classicist who brings the past to life beyond textbooks, museums, and standard narratives.

Rather than focusing only on monuments and famous names, we explore the ideas, systems, and inventions that shaped ancient society—and continue to influence the modern world. Discover Greek and Roman ingenuity in politics, law, architecture, and urban life, while uncovering how these systems actually worked on the ground.

A key focus of the tour is everyday life in antiquity. We discuss jobs and wages, social mobility, the institution of slavery, religious beliefs and rituals, and the roles of women and men in the ancient city. Through these stories, the ancient world emerges not as an idealized golden age, but as a complex society full of innovation, contradictions, and tension.

You may be surprised by how familiar some aspects of ancient life feel—and how radically different others are. By the end of the tour, ancient Athens will no longer seem distant or abstract, but strikingly real, challenging, and relevant.

It is very important to dress accordingly and come prepared with : comfortable clothes, walking shoes, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses and water. The walk is around 3 hours in duration with a short break. The tour is mostly standing and there are steps and hills so having reasonable fitness is important for your comfort and enjoyment.
