Informations sur le produit

Where the ancient granite of Mount Desert Island meets the restless Atlantic Ocean, a living tapestry of mosses, trees, blooms, and leaves awaits those who wish to slow down to truly look and listen. This is a chance for a fully customizable, deeply personal pilgrimage through the hidden botanical heart of Acadia, guided by a year-round local who sees the island through the eyes of a lifelong gardener and a florist. Together, we will trace the winding, dramatic curves of the 27-mile Park Loop Road through young mixed forest reborn from the fire of 1947, on through where the dark spruce forests part to reveal breathtaking ocean cliffs. We’ll leave the beaten path behind and veer off into secret sanctuaries where earth and human hands have labored for generations.
Our day is tailored entirely to what speaks to your groove, moving to the gentle rhythm of the changing seasons. We will step into the serene, raked-gravel paths of the Japanese-inspired Asticou Azalea Garden, where vibrant petals and colorful leaves reflect perfectly on still, glassy waters. We can climb up or down the mossy stone steps of the Thuya Garden and Terraces, emerging into a breathtaking, English-style hillside border framed by towering white cedars and sweeping harbor views. By special arrangement, we may wander the private, walled masterpiece of the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Garden, where exuberant Western perennials mingle with historic Eastern statuary behind a cloak of deep woods. At the Wild Gardens of Acadia, we will learn the quiet language of the island's native flora, seeing over 400 indigenous species thrive in their exact, delicate habitats.
Our journey also honors the visionaries who shaped this landscape. We will stand in the quiet, sacred spaces of Garland Farm—the final home, garden, and library of legendary landscape architect Beatrix Farrand—breathing in the very air that inspired American landscape genius. You’ll have the opportunity to chase the sunlight into local butterfly gardens, full of milkweed and humming with life and delicate wings. For those interested in the island farming life, our journey expands into the rich agricultural heritage carved directly into Acadia's rugged landscape. We will explore the iconic Old Stone Barn Farm, where historic architecture meets generations of coastal farming. At the Peggy Rockefeller Farm you will see sheep grazing against a rural island backdrop, experiencing a vital piece of the island's working landscape. You can step back in time at an old blueberry farm to learn about Maine's native wild crop, and if you’re here in mid July to mid August you can harvest! Visit Beech Hill Farm to witness vibrant, modern organic food production in action and check out their farm market! Your tour guide is flexible and options are plentiful. You can stop anywhere that catches your attention including shops, restaurants, museums, or panoramas.
