Product Info

Step into the story of divided Berlin on a walk through the Cold War city, where for nearly three decades East and West stood only metres apart. With a licensed local guide, follow the frontline of a divided world — from espionage and surveillance to separated families and the courage that finally brought the Wall down.

Begin at the Brandenburg Gate, the neoclassical landmark left stranded in the Death Strip, where your guide sets the scene of a Germany carved into East and West in 1949. Pass the imposing Russian Embassy on Unter den Linden, a symbol of Soviet control, then the former American presence near the Gate, where Berlin became the espionage capital of the world — the great chessboard of CIA against KGB, secret tunnels and midnight spy exchanges.

At the Palace of Tears, the glass border pavilion at Friedrichstraße, hear the heartbreak of East Berliners saying goodbye to Western relatives across the Iron Curtain. Descend into Nordbahnhof, an eerie "ghost station" where sealed platforms sat patrolled by armed guards, before reaching the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Straße — the most complete surviving stretch of the border, where the Wall's full deadly anatomy of watchtowers and Death Strip is laid bare.

The walk ends at the Chapel of Reconciliation, rising on ground where the border once ran, a symbol of healing where there had been only division. Here your guide draws the whole story together: the Peaceful Revolution of 1989, the Monday demonstrations, and the night the Wall finally opened. With a small group and an expert local at the helm, you'll discover a Berlin shaped not by concrete alone, but by ordinary people and one of history's greatest examples of peaceful change.

With a max of 20 guests, it is a more personal experience than most tours in the city. This tour includes a short journey by public transport. If you don't hold a valid day pass (AB-zone), we'll cover the cost of your ticket.
