Informations sur le produit

Just outside Bodø, on a farm at Tverlandet, we breed the Nordland horse, also known as the Lyngen horse. It is one of Norway's oldest native breeds, still classed as endangered, and a living piece of Northern Norwegian cultural heritage. Ours is one of the largest breeding herds in the country.

Your visit begins in the yard, where your host welcomes you and introduces the farm and the herd. You will hear how close this breed came to disappearing, and about the breeding work carried out in Bodø and Salten during the 1960s that helped bring it back. It is a story most Norwegians do not know, and one that is still being written here on the farm.

From there you meet the horses themselves. You will greet stallions, broodmares, young horses and foals, each with their own character. The Nordland horse is small, sturdy and known for being calm and curious, and ours are used to visitors. If you want to, you can groom and feed some of them. Time with the foals and young horses is usually the part guests remember most.

Weather permitting, a short carriage ride is available for those who would like one. This depends on conditions on the day and cannot be guaranteed.

There is no riding on this visit, which makes it well suited to families with small children, groups with mixed abilities, and anyone who wants to spend time around horses without getting in the saddle. Groups are kept to a maximum of sixteen, so there is always room to ask questions.

The visit lasts around 90 minutes and takes place year-round, in a working stable and outdoor paddocks. Dress for the weather and wear shoes you do not mind getting dirty.
