Informations sur le produit

Meet your guide and set off on a walking tour of the Western Islands, a hidden gem in Amsterdam. Discover the rich history of Bickerseiland, Prinseneiland, and Realeneiland as you explore their charming streets and learn about their transformation from bustling shipyards and warehouses to a vibrant artists' haven.

Admire the impressive warehouses, wooden drawbridges, and the martial-looking "Giant of Bickerseiland." Stroll past handsome rows of façades adorned with meaningful gable stones, and see how modern architecture blends with the area's historic charm.

Depending on the route your guide chooses, you may come face to face with striking grain silos that have been converted into luxury apartments beside the Oude Houthaven (Old Timber Harbour) or the table sculpture "Poolkleed" (Polar Cloth), whose details refer to the famous wintering of Barentsz and Heemskerck on Nova Zembla. And if you pass through the Galgenstraat (Gallows Street), your guide will tell you where that name comes from.

Along the way, discover surprising little public gardens and artists' studios that add to the area's appeal.
