This tour offers a blend of breathtaking scenery, fascinating glacial formations, and insightful guidance from a certified glacier guide. Step onto one of Iceland's most impressive natural wonders and discover the ever-changing world of Sólheimajökull Glacier on this guided glacier hiking adventure.

Your experience begins with a safety briefing and fitting of professional glacier equipment, including crampons, a helmet, harness, and ice axe. Accompanied by a certified glacier guide, you'll hike through a scenic moss-covered valley before reaching the glacier itself, where dramatic ice formations, deep crevasses, towering ridges, and winding meltwater channels create an unforgettable landscape.

Once on the ice, you'll explore a frozen world shaped by nature's powerful forces. Sólheimajökull is an outlet glacier of the mighty Mýrdalsjökull ice cap, which sits above the famous Katla volcano. As you walk across the glacier, your guide will share fascinating insights into glacier formation, volcanic activity, and the visible effects of climate change on Iceland's glaciers. You'll also see striking layers of black volcanic ash embedded in the ice, remnants of past eruptions that tell the story of Iceland's unique geological history.

The hike covers approximately 6 km (3.7 miles) and is suitable for adventurous beginners with a reasonable level of fitness. No previous glacier hiking experience is required, making this tour an excellent introduction to one of Iceland's most iconic outdoor activities.

For guests choosing the Reykjavík departure option, the adventure includes a scenic journey along Iceland's famous South Coast with stops at some of the region's most celebrated attractions, including Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, Skógafoss Waterfall, and Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach near the village of Vík.

Whether you're visiting Iceland for the first time or returning to explore more of its wild landscapes, this glacier experience offers the perfect combination of adventure, breathtaking scenery, and expert local guidance. Join us for an unforgettable journey onto the ice and witness the beauty of Sólheimajökull from a truly unique perspective.
