Travel England Tours Ltd is a multi-award-winning tour experience company. Begin your private chauffeured journey with a visit to Chartwell House, the former country home of Sir Winston Churchill. Located near Westerham in Kent, this historic site served as Churchill’s main residence, workplace, and retreat for over 40 years.
Chartwell was Churchill’s principal residence from 1924 until 1965. Architect Philip Tilden remodelled the original house to emphasise views over the Weald of Kent. Today, rooms remain largely as the family left them—filled with paintings, books, personal gifts, and mementoes. The on-site studio houses the largest single collection of Churchill’s artwork, reflecting his passion for painting as a relaxation from politics.
Explore the rooms, preserved by the National Trust, which remain much as they were during his lifetime. Wander through the gardens, lakes, and countryside views that Churchill loved and helped design himself.
The 80-acre grounds include Lady Churchill’s rose garden, a working walled kitchen garden with fruit and vegetables, and lakes constructed by Churchill himself: woodland walks, a children’s treehouse, and scenic walking trails. We stop for lunch before heading back to central London, which takes 2hrs
The Churchill War Rooms is a preserved underground complex in Westminster, London, that served as the British government’s top-secret command centre during the Second World War. Operated by the Imperial War Museums, it now serves as a museum dedicated to both wartime leadership and Winston Churchill’s life.
Walking through the War Rooms feels like stepping back in time. Everything—from teacups to telephones—has been preserved, giving a vivid sense of what life was like during the Blitz (German bombing raids) and the tension of wartime leadership. You will visit,
The Cabinet Room – where crucial war decisions were made
The Map Room – left exactly as it was in 1945, with maps and pins still in place
Churchill Museum – interactive exhibits about Churchill’s life and leadership
Living quarters – bedrooms, kitchens, and offices used by staff, underground
