Leave Edinburgh and take the scenic coastal road to North Berwick. Discover a beautiful beach, a bustling village with authentic buildings, and a bakery. Visit the Scottish Birdlife Center or take a steep walk up Berwick Law, an extinct volcano, for sensational views.

Next, head to the magnificent ruins of Tantallon Castle, the last medieval curtain wall castle constructed in Scotland. Explore the castle, which is naturally protected by sea cliffs on three sides.

Continue to SeaCliff Beach, where you might see horses being exercised in the morning, galloping through the sea spray. Enjoy the sound of the waves and the unspoiled beauty of the area.

Afterward, drive to the ancient port town of Dunbar for lunch. Enjoy fish and chips on a bench in the harbor, watching fishermen unload their catches while expectant hungry grey common seals watch on from the water.

On the way back to Edinburgh, visit Athelstaneford, where the original Scottish saltire was first adopted. Nearby, explore the Museum of Flight, Scotland's premier aviation museum, Archerfield Walled Garden, Hopetoun Monument, and Haddington.
