Secrets, Shadows & Spirits – The Ultimate Bath Ghost Walk｜United Kingdom

Venture into the shadowed past of one of Britain’s most beautiful cities on The Haunted Paths of Bath — an immersive ghost walk that reveals the stories history tried to bury.

Bath is known for its golden stone, Roman baths and elegant crescents, but beneath its graceful surface lies a city built upon centuries of forgotten lives, disturbed graves, tragic deaths and lingering spirits. From ancient burial grounds hidden beneath Bath Abbey to sealed Civil War cellars where the wounded were left to die, this guided walk uncovers the darker side of Bath’s remarkable history through richly told true tales and local legend.

Along the route, you’ll stand where mourners once buried their dead in stacked graves, hear of phantom footsteps echoing beneath Abbey Green, and meet the Grey Lady who still watches performances from the Theatre Royal balcony. Discover how heartbreak drove Julianna Popjoy to live inside a hollow tree — and why her gentle spirit is said to have returned to her former home to keep hosting parties long after death.

The tour continues past Mary Shelley’s House of Frankenstein, where grief and imagination collided to create one of literature’s greatest horror stories, and where visitors still report unsettling sensations, shadows and unseen presences. Walk the narrow lanes of Trim Street, once a place of sickness and forgotten deaths, where child spirits are said to linger, and follow the misty Gravel Walk where gentlemen once settled disputes with pistols — and where some duels may still be replaying themselves centuries later.

At the Royal Crescent, hear of the phantom carriage that arrives night after night but never delivers its passenger, and end the journey at Queen Square where a devoted housekeeper is believed to continue caring for hotel guests long after her own life ended.

Blending history, humour and haunting storytelling, The Haunted Paths of Bath is a theatrical yet grounded experience — spooky without being sensational, emotional without being morbid, and always rooted in the city’s extraordinary past. Guests are even invited to share their own unexplained experiences along the way, making each walk uniquely memorable.

Whether you’re a visitor discovering Bath for the first time or a local curious about what lies beneath familiar streets, this atmospheric tour offers a new way to see the city — one where every shadow holds a story, and every stone remembers.

Dare to walk where Bath’s history still whispers.
