For over 100 years, the Mainz-Finthen airfield has been part of the city's history – and yet, for many, it is still a real insider tip. Together with an experienced pilot, you will discover an exciting part of Mainz off the beaten track on this approximately two-hour tour.

The guided tour begins at the airfield tower. From there, you will learn more about the development of the site, its current importance for Mainz, and everyday life at the airfield. During a walking tour of the site, you will get an exclusive look behind otherwise closed doors, visit the tower and selected hangars, and experience flight operations up close.

Along the way, you can expect surprising stories about aviation, the city's history, special events, and the people who have shaped this place. At the same time, you will discover the surrounding nature with its remarkable biodiversity and learn more about the special location of the airfield in the west of Mainz.

To conclude, you will enjoy a "Piffchen" of wine (0.1 l per person) in a special atmosphere in one of the hangars – an atmospheric finale combining technology, history, and the Mainz lifestyle.

  • Know Before You Go: The tour takes place mostly outdoors and on the airfield grounds. We recommend sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing, as well as sun protection and drinking water, depending on the weather.

  • Know Before You Go: Dogs are unfortunately not allowed for safety reasons. The event is not wheelchair accessible.

  • Know Before You Go: The meeting point is the tower at the Mainz-Finthen airfield. Please arrive on site roughly 10 minutes before the tour starts. Parking is available in the airfield area.
