Zululand Explorer Wildlife & Cultural Safari｜South Africa

This very uniquely „Bushbaby Safaris Zululand“ activity can be done from two starting points, either from Hluhluwe or from St Lucia. Both towns are gateways to everything in and around Zululand, but for logistical reasons and to make this exiting activity work for travellers staying in in either one of these towns, the itineraries vary slightly therefore there are two options to choose from.

With that said, your day starts with your guide, Sifiso Dube picking you up from your accommodation in the morning and after a few formalities and everyone is on board „Bushbaby“ – our open safari vehicle, you head out to explore Zululand. A well guided tour through Dumazulu Tradition Village where you gain insights to what traditional Zulu life was like in a bygone era. A short drive from here you will start a guided walking tour through the KwaSmolo community. These two activities directly following each other perfectly contrasts the “old and the “new” way of life.

The KwaSmolo community visit is a totally random and unscheduled activity. There are no specific start times or times to be at a specific place, you simply arrive on the day. We do notify two places that there are visitors expected, just to ensure they are available. It is done this way to ensure 100% natural and realistic behaviour with any interaction as you walk through the community and experience on the ground actual day-to-day life as it happens. Afterwards you will be treated to some local hospitality with a traditional “shisanyama” (BBQ) for lunch and some interactive Zulu dancing by the local Zulu dance group.

After you’ve said goodbye to your hosts at KwaSmolo you’ll make your way to Memorial Gate and round off this exhilarating and enlightening day with an open vehicle safari through the incredible and world renowned “Big 5” Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park before being dropped off back at your accommodation.
