Product Info

Go beyond the city's famous landmarks and immerse yourself in one of Uzbekistan's most treasured artistic traditions during this hands-on pottery experience in Tashkent. Combining cultural storytelling with a traditional pottery workshop, this experience offers a unique opportunity to discover the history, symbolism, and craftsmanship that have shaped Uzbek ceramics for centuries.

Your journey begins with convenient hotel pickup before meeting your local host, who will introduce you to the rich artistic heritage of Uzbekistan. As you explore, you'll discover how the Silk Road transformed the region into a crossroads of cultures, where ideas, materials, and artistic techniques blended to create the distinctive crafts that Uzbekistan is known for today. Along the way, you'll learn about traditional silk and textile production, regional doll-making traditions, tribal craft styles, wedding customs, household rituals, local superstitions, and the enduring legacy of Suzani embroidery and Uzbek ceramics. There will also be time to browse a carefully selected collection of handmade crafts, where your local host can help you understand the different styles and assist with bargaining if you wish to purchase a souvenir.

The highlight of the experience is a visit to a traditional pottery studio, where you'll meet a skilled local ceramic artisan and step behind the scenes of one of Uzbekistan's oldest living crafts. Before getting your hands dirty, you'll learn about the distinctive styles of Uzbek pottery, the natural materials used by local potters, and the techniques that have been passed down through generations.

Then it's your turn to create. Under the guidance of your artisan host, you'll take part in a hands-on pottery workshop where you'll shape your own ceramic piece using traditional methods. Depending on your preference, you'll have the opportunity to throw clay on the pottery wheel or hand-build your creation while learning the essential stages of the ceramic-making process—from preparing the clay and shaping the form to smoothing the surface and adding decorative details inspired by traditional Uzbek designs. No previous experience is required, making this workshop suitable for all skill levels.

After the workshop, you'll leave with a deeper appreciation for Uzbekistan's rich ceramic heritage and a memorable connection to its living traditions. Depending on the drying and firing process, your pottery can either be collected later or shipped internationally for an additional fee.
