Travel in a comfortable Land Cruiser and enjoy the journey with private treats. This half-day East Dhofar Scenic & Heritage Experience is designed for travelers who want to explore the landscapes and history east of Salalah at a relaxed pace, combining coastal views, fertile valleys, and archaeological heritage into one carefully paced journey.

After hotel pickup in Salalah, travel east along the coast toward Taqah City, a historic fishing town that reflects the traditional lifestyle of the Dhofar region. Enjoy an orientation drive through the town, followed by a stop to view the Taqah Grand Mosque, an important local landmark. Your guide will explain its architectural features and its role within the community.

Continue to Burj Alaskar, an elevated coastal viewpoint offering wide views over the sea, cliffs, and surrounding landscape. This stop allows time to take in the scenery and appreciate the natural geography that shapes this part of the coast.

The route then passes through the area of Khor Rori, the site of the ancient port city of Sumhuram. During a scenic drive around the archaeological zone, learn about its importance in the frankincense trade and its role as a link between Arabia, Africa, and India. This stop focuses on storytelling and historical context without entering the ruins.

Leaving the coast, travel inland toward Wadi Darbat, one of East Dhofar’s most scenic natural areas. The valley is famous for its expansive landscapes, seasonal greenery, flowing streams, and gentle rolling terrain, offering a peaceful escape into nature. Along the way, you’ll make a camel stop in Wadi Darbat, where these iconic animals roam freely in their natural environment. Learn about the camels’ vital role in Omani culture, from traditional transportation to desert livelihoods, while observing them up close and taking memorable photos.

Next, continue toward the Mirbat sand dunes, where soft golden sands stretch across the landscape and contrast with the surrounding hills and coastline. This area offers a quiet and scenic environment, ideal for photography and appreciating the transition between desert and coastal terrain.

The journey then leads to the gravity location, where a natural optical illusion causes vehicles to appear to roll uphill. Nearby, stop to see baobab trees, a rare feature of Dhofar’s environment. Learn about their unusual form, long lifespan, and how they have adapted to the region’s climate.

In the late afternoon, return toward the coast for a final stop at Taqah Cliff, an elevated viewpoint overlooking the Arabian Sea. As the light changes, enjoy wide coastal views and a peaceful atmosphere, creating a memorable conclusion to the tour.

This experience is carefully designed to balance nature, history, and scenic travel, making it ideal for visitors seeking a deeper and more varied exploration of East Dhofar before returning to their hotel in Salalah.
