Product Info

The winter waterfall hike most travelers never get to do.

In summer, Peričnik Waterfall is one of Slovenia's most visited natural sights. Buses pull up, tourists take photos, everyone leaves. In winter, the trail is officially closed to the public. The road shuts. The tourist crowds disappear.

This tour takes you in, safely, legally, and expertly guided, through the snow and ice to a waterfall almost no travelers see in winter.

The 52-metre cascade transforms into a wall of dramatic ice pillars and rushing water beneath a cathedral-like overhang. In cold snaps you'll see the full frozen curtain. In milder weeks, towering ice formations frame the falling water. Every visit is different. Every visit is spectacular.

Why book with a guide

The Peričnik trail is closed to the general public in winter for safety reasons - icy sections, unstable snow, and rockfall risk near the waterfall itself. Access is only possible with proper equipment and an experienced local guide who knows the terrain in every condition.

You'll be fitted with microspikes or crampons depending on ice conditions, given a helmet for protection near the falls, and led by a guide who has walked this valley in every kind of winter weather. This is how you experience Peričnik in winter, safely.

How the day unfolds

We pick you up in Ljubljana at 07:00 or in Bled at 08:00 and drive to Mojstrana, a genuine alpine village at the foot of the Julian Alps. After a gear fitting, we begin the hike.

The trail follows a snow-covered forest path for about 45 minutes to reach the waterfall itself. You'll have time to explore the ice formations, take photos, and stand in the winter silence beneath the cliff.

From Peričnik, we continue further into the Vrata Valley, one of Slovenia's most dramatic glacial valleys, walled on both sides by 2,000-metre peaks and dominated at its head by the vast north face of Mt Triglav, the largest continuous rock wall in the Eastern Alps.

The valley in winter is a landscape almost no travelers see; empty, silent, and framed by peaks under snow.

Two ways to book

Bled guests are dropped back at their accommodation by early afternoon, a half-day mountain adventure with the rest of your day free.

Ljubljana guests get the full winter day: after the hike, we drop you in central Bled with a free afternoon to explore Slovenia's most iconic lakeside town. Walk the promenade, visit the castle, taste the legendary Bled cream cake. We pick you back up in the early evening for the return to Ljubljana. One booking, two of Slovenia's most beautiful places.

Small groups of maximum 8. Certified guides. All winter safety gear included.
