Luang Prabang: Private Mulberry Saa Paper and Lantern Making｜Laos

Begin your journey with a warm welcome from local artisans who will guide you through the fascinating process of making Saa paper from scratch. Using the bark of fast-growing mulberry bushes, which are also a vital food source for silkworms, learn how this sustainable material is transformed into beautiful sheets of handmade paper.

During the workshop, design and personalize your own mulberry paper, decorating it with fresh flowers, leaves, and natural elements to create a one-of-a-kind piece. Then, take your creativity a step further by crafting a custom paper lantern, a charming keepsake that reflects your artistic flair and the beauty of Lao tradition.

As you work alongside skilled artisans, gain deeper insight into the cultural significance of Saa paper and its role in daily life and local businesses. The Porsaa Learning Center proudly supports a local paper company that supplies sustainable products such as gift boxes, menu covers, minibar paper lists, and notebooks used in hospitality and tourism across the region.

After a fulfilling and inspiring creative session, return to your hotel in the afternoon, carrying with you not only your handmade creations but also a deeper appreciation for Lao culture and craftsmanship.
