Start your tour from the Armor Courtyard to take a look at the Vatican Gardens and continue to the Pinecone Courtyard, located in the center of the ancient papal buildings. Pass through some of the rooms of the Belvedere Palace, the former summer residence of the Pope and now home to the Pio-Clementine Museum, which houses important artifacts of Greco-Roman art, including the Apollo Belvedere and the Laocoön Group. Then, head to the 3 galleries that lead to the papal apartments: the Gallery of the Candelabra, the Gallery of the Tapestries with works from Peter Van Aelst's Flemish workshop, and the Gallery of the Maps with frescoed maps of Italy commissioned by Pope Gregory XIII. End the tour with a visit to two must-see sites in the Vatican collection: the Raphael Rooms in Pope Julius II's apartment and the Sistine Chapel, where you can admire Michelangelo's masterpieces, such as the scenes from the Book of Genesis and The Last Judgment.
