Hakone Open-Air Museum
The Hakone Open-Air Museum(雕の森博物馆) opened in Hakone in 1969 and is Japan's first outdoor art museum. The museum's biggest highlight is its expansive outdoor sculpture garden, with approximately 70,000 square meters of green space offering panoramic views of the Hakone mountains and showcasing about 120 representative works by modern and contemporary sculptors, allowing you to stroll freely between nature and art.
In addition to the outdoor exhibition area, the museum also features several indoor exhibition spaces, including the "Picasso Pavilion," which showcases over 300 world-class collections and is very popular with visitors. The park also features a number of interactive art installations that visitors can experience firsthand, such as the "Forest of Nets" where children can play, and the "Symphony of Good Fortune" sculpture that visitors can climb, allowing them to not only watch but also participate.
In addition, the facility also features natural hot spring foot baths and restaurants, making it ideal for a half-day or full-day art-themed stroll through Hakone.
