Ten years after her last major solo exhibition in Taipei, Mika Ninagawa returns with 'Mika Ninagawa with EiM: Light of the Other Shore, Shadow of This Shore'. This is her largest immersive art experience overseas to date. Co-curated by Mika Ninagawa and the creative team EiM, the exhibition breaks away from traditional photography-based formats, leading visitors on a sensory journey where virtual and reality intersect through three-dimensional installations and video works. Featuring eight major exhibition zones, the show includes a brilliant blooming garden and a fantastical space with 2,000 crystal strings dancing with light and shadow. Combined with 720-degree panoramic projections, it constructs an infinitely extending visual illusion, delivering an unprecedented immersive impact.
About Mika Ninagawa: Photographer, film director, and contemporary artist. With photography at her core, her work spans film, video, and spatial installation art. She currently continues her activities as a member of the creative team EiM. She has received numerous awards, including the Kimura Ihei Photography Award, and has published over 120 photography books and held over 150 solo exhibitions, remaining active on the international art scene. Major exhibitions include *Mika Ninagawa with EiM: Light Beyond, Shadow of This Shore* (Kyoto Kyocera Museum, January-March 2025), *Mika Ninagawa Exhibition* (Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei, 2016), and *Mika Ninagawa: Between Fiction and Reality* (Beijing Times Museum, 2022).
"Breathing of Lives" explores the theme of "life's breath" in the city, projecting images onto countless water tanks. The shimmering water blurs the line between reality and fantasy, transforming the daily lives and memories of city dwellers into a dreamlike scene. Viewers stroll amidst the interplay of light and shadow, experiencing a resonance between themselves and the city. "Blooming Emotions" is a video work that guides viewers to explore the depths of their hearts through the act of "viewing flowers." Light and shadow are projected and overlapped from both sides of the screen, creating the illusion of being immersed in a sea of blooming flowers. Flowers, which have existed alongside humankind since ancient times, are beautiful yet fleeting, reflecting the memories and emotions of the viewers and awakening hidden feelings within. The space "Liberation and Obsession" is composed of traces of artist Mika Ninagawa's inner emotions—persistence, passion, and struggle. Paint, frames, and video clips intertwine to present a state of mind oscillating between the desire for liberation and constraint. The highlight of the exhibition, *Dreams of the Beyond in the Abyss*, comprises a panoramic LED space resembling an endless abyss and a vibrant, colorful garden. Viewers feel as if their senses have been detached from their physical bodies, experiencing a near-death journey into the depths of their souls. At the boundary between life and death, viewers confront their inner essence, entering a space imbued with a meditative atmosphere, contemplating what they will see beyond the boundary. "Whispers of Light, Dreams of Color" is an installation art piece composed of 2,000 crystal beads interwoven together, creating a tapestry of light and color. Patterns such as butterflies, flowers, hearts, and eyes not only evoke cherished memories, like tiny gemstones, but also symbolize the shift in perspective from "the viewed" to "the observer." The work also pays tribute to women who can only express themselves through handicrafts; the shimmering light seems to recreate their quiet passion and prayer. - Children under the age of 12 are not allowed to enter alone and must be accompanied by an adult with a ticket.
- The organizer does not provide a baggage check-in service. Strollers and large luggage must be placed outside the exhibition area as instructed by staff. The organizer is not responsible for personal property loss, so please keep your personal belongings and valuables safe.
- There are no restrooms or trash cans inside the exhibition hall. Please use the restrooms outside the hall before entering.
- Please follow the visitor flow, exhibition rules, and instructions from on-site staff. If there are large crowds, please queue in order. To protect the rights of others, please do not occupy the exhibition space for an extended period of time.
- Photography and videography are permitted at this exhibition, but live streaming, the use of professional photography equipment, flashes, tripods, selfie sticks, and stabilizers are strictly prohibited throughout the exhibition area. Commercial photography, videography, or interviews are not permitted without prior permission. Please abide by the regulations of each exhibition area and respect the intellectual property rights and copyrights of the works on display.
- Playing, running, eating, and drinking are prohibited inside the exhibition area. Please do not bring food or beverages into the venue. Smoking, chewing gum, and betel nuts are prohibited. Selling or reselling tickets on-site is prohibited. If any inappropriate behavior is observed and warnings are ignored, the person must leave immediately without objection. No compensation or refund will be provided for the ticket price.
- Pets (except guide dogs), long-handled umbrellas (short-handled umbrellas should be stored in your bag), and all kinds of dangerous and prohibited items are not allowed in the exhibition area. It is forbidden to hit or touch the exhibits and display cases. If any damage is caused, you will need to pay for it at the price.
- There are staff members stationed at each booth to maintain order. If you find any suspicious persons or unidentified objects, find lost items, or feel unwell, please notify the staff nearby immediately for assistance.
- If you wish to re-enter after leaving the exhibition, you can get a repeat entry stamp at the exit and queue again at the entrance. However, entry and exit are only permitted during the exhibition's opening hours on the day of the event. No separate ticket is required to purchase merchandise in the souvenir area; please proceed to the souvenir area from the exit.
- To maintain the quality and safety of the exhibition, crowd control will be implemented when the number of visitors reaches the maximum limit. Ticket sales will be suspended. Please cooperate with the staff and wait in line at the entrance (final entry time is 17:30).
- Please refer to the on-site announcements or official fan page for any changes to the exhibition's opening hours and regulations. The organizer reserves the right to interpret any matters not covered above.
Reminders
This ticket is valid for the entire exhibition period (until April 19, 2026). Tickets not purchased by this date will be considered invalid. Refunds and exchanges must be processed through the original ticketing channel before the exhibition closes on April 19, 2026. Late requests will not be accepted. Please refer to the refund policies of each ticketing channel for details.
Please redeem your tickets during the exhibition period after purchase. Tickets not redeemed by the deadline will become invalid and non-refundable. Holders of KKday vouchers do not need to exchange for tickets and can directly proceed to the exhibition entrance for verification and entry. Redeemed tickets are non-refundable.
A single ticket is valid for one person only and cannot be reused; a double ticket requires both people to enter at the same time and cannot be used separately.
This ticket is a valuable ticket. Please keep it safe. If it is lost, damaged, punched, altered, soiled, photocopied, or torn, or otherwise unidentifiable, it will be considered invalid and will not be refunded, exchanged, or reissued.
Only tickets sold at the exhibition booths will be refunded on-site. Please provide a complete, unused ticket, invoice, or credit card receipt for processing.
Children under 3 years old can enter for free, but must be accompanied by an adult with a ticket (they must show relevant identification; if no identification is brought, they will be judged based on whether they are 90 cm tall or not; age is calculated based on their actual age on the day of entry).
Those eligible for free admission should present their identification for verification by staff before entry. If they do not meet the eligibility criteria, they should purchase a ticket accordingly. Those eligible for preferential treatment (discounted tickets, priority tickets) cannot request a partial refund or additional payment for the ticket price difference after entering the venue.
To ensure clear identification by service personnel, necessary companions for persons with disabilities should enter the venue closely following the persons with disabilities.
