Welcome to El Astillero, one of our favorite places since the time of our grandparents, who discovered this corner of southern Morelos when they were looking to escape the pace of the city to enjoy the tranquility of the countryside and nature.
Our experience begins with a visit to the Archaeological Zone of Xochicalco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where we'll learn about one of the most important pre-Hispanic settlements in Mesoamerica.
We'll then head to the traditional market in Jojutla, where we'll stroll through its aisles to buy seasonal fruits, freshly made tortillas, cheeses, meats, and other products made by local producers.
We'll continue our journey along a path surrounded by cornfields, trees, and landscapes that reflect rural Mexico until we reach the indigenous community of La Mezquitera, in the municipality of Tlaquiltenango.
On this tour, we will visit a little-known former mining hacienda. During colonial times, it was used to take advantage of the minerals present in the water streams, mainly gold and silver. Today, vegetation and large trees have taken over its stone buildings, creating a landscape where history and nature coexist in an extraordinary way.
Finally, we will arrive at a small country house known as El Astillero, surrounded by nature, where we will prepare a barbecue with the products purchased at the market, in the midst of nature. We'll rest under the shade of a palapa, enjoying the sounds of the countryside, the river, and the birds.
El Astillero is an invitation to experience the real Mexico, where the country's most authentic traditions and ways of life remain.
This experience is aimed at travelers who enjoy nature, history, and local culture; people who are looking for uncrowded destinations away from mass tourism and who value authentic experiences over luxury. It's ideal for those who appreciate the simple things in life and understand that the true richness of a trip lies in contact with people, the land, and its traditions.
We hope that, even if only for a day, you can leave behind the fast pace of the city and rediscover the pleasure of walking among cornfields, listening to the birds sing, sharing food around the fire, and remembering that, often, the greatest wealth is found in the simplicity of life.
