The Luberon Regional Natural Park established in the 1970s, is characterised by a series of strikingly picturesque hilltop limestone villages such as Gordes, while the village of Roussillon is renowned for its magnificent red cliffs and former ochre quarry. The landscape as described in Peter Mayle’s books is particularly colourful with vineyards, olive groves, Cyprus trees as well as poppy, sunflower and lavender fields.
