Información del producto

Step into the past and explore the solemn mourning customs of 19th-century Louisiana on this limited-time tour at St. Joseph Plantation. From October 1st through November 3rd, the home is draped in traditional mourning attire, reflecting how Creole families honored death and remembrance.

Walk through authentically decorated rooms, learn about funeral rituals, and understand how grief was expressed in everyday life. This seasonal experience offers a rare glimpse into a practice once central to Southern culture.

The plantation home is dressed in full “deep mourning,” following the old prescribed customs. Black crepe drapes the front doors, mirrors are covered, pianos and organs are closed, and a black-draped coffin is placed in the main hall, reflecting the Creole custom of home visitation.

Throughout the tour, learn how faith, family, death, and remembrance shaped daily life in South Louisiana. From All Saints’ Day traditions to mourning attire and household rituals, the Mourning Tour offers a meaningful look into customs that remain part of Louisiana’s cultural memory today.
