Información del producto

You can't leave New York without discovering Harlem. This neighborhood in the north of Manhattan is the heart of the African-American community. This guided tour in French invites you to see the best of this unique New York neighborhood on a 3.5-hour walking tour.
The route begins in Washington Heights, a neighborhood that was once part of Harlem. This is an opportunity to learn about the origins and development of the neighborhood, wedged between Central Park and the Bronx.
You will then enter Harlem directly. Your live guide will immediately discuss the Civil Rights struggle in the 1950s and 1960s and the central role played by the famous pastor Martin Luther King Jr. You will see that Harlem retains many references to this significant period.
Harlem is also about music! Your live guide will talk about the big names that made Harlem legendary, from Louis Armstrong to Aretha Franklin to singer Ray Charles and his "Wonderful World". In particular, you will pass by the building where the great jazz pianist Duke Ellington lived, in the Sugar Hill neighborhood.
Your live guide will then suggest getting off the beaten track by going through the gate to the Harlem Community Gardens. A secret place unknown to tourists! Another treasure: the Morris-Jumel Mansion. This perfectly preserved colonial-style building is the oldest house in Manhattan. Your live guide will also show you some of the most beautiful murals in the area. Because Harlem is also a neighborhood that's a big deal when it comes to street art!
Then it's time for the Gospel Mass. Over the years, our team of live guides has developed a very close relationship with the community that runs a typical neighborhood church, and we are among the very few tourists admitted to the Sunday morning service. You will be welcomed warmly and with kindness. Above all, you will take your seat among the congregation and not in the mezzanine as is the case in tourist churches. A beautiful moment of sharing and togetherness!
The Gospel service lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours, but it is impossible to give a more precise time. It all depends on the choir's inspiration, the length of the songs, and the duration of the sermon. It changes every Sunday, and the experience is absolutely unique!
Once the service is over, your live guide will offer to take you along 125th Street, Harlem's main thoroughfare. You will stop in front of the magnificent Apollo Theater, a legendary New York show venue. Your live guide will point out the Walk of Fame that covers the sidewalk in front of the theater: you will see the footprints of African-American music legends, including Michael Jackson. You can also experience the hustle and bustle of 125th Street. This guided tour in French offers you the chance to discover a completely different side of New York!
