Magdalena Island Cruise: An Encounter with Magellanic Penguins

On this fascinating excursion, you'll have the chance to meet the charming Magellanic penguin, a species that measures between 50 and 70 cm, is an exceptional swimmer, and spends much of its life in the water. These penguins live from Tierra del Fuego to southern Brazil, with numerous colonies in Patagonia. Among them, the impressive colony of Magdalena Island stands out, where more than 150,000 penguins gather each season.

Our adventure kicks off by boarding a comfy enclosed boat, equipped with a large rear deck to enjoy the scenery. The approximately two-hour journey will take us through the iconic Strait of Magellan to Magdalena Island.

Once we arrive at the island's dock, we'll disembark for a guided tour of about an hour. During this tour, you'll walk among the penguins, observing their behavior in their natural habitat. We'll climb up to the old lighthouse, where you can enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the landscape.

After this unforgettable experience, we'll head back to the Punta Arenas pier.

Important: This activity is subject to weather conditions. So, we recommend not scheduling it for the last day of your visit to Patagonia, to have flexibility in case it needs to be rescheduled due to the weather.
