Enjoy a private guided tour (closed group) without any other participants. Please note that, as of January 2024, the city guide is required to collect a solidarity contribution for the preservation of Vienna's cemeteries, amounting to €3 per person, payable in cash on site.
An old Viennese proverb says that in death, we are all equal. At the Vienna Central Cemetery, this is more true only for the area below ground. Splendor and fame, prestige and wealth are impressively showcased beyond the end of a person's life.
You will see and experience this splendor on a private combined tour of Vienna Central Cemetery.
During the first part of your private tour, you will see the most magnificent section of the cemetery, between the imposing Gate 2 entrance and the monumental cemetery church in the Viennese Art Nouveau style. In this area, your private tour guide will show you numerous honorary graves. These include Beethoven, Johann Strauss, the Thonet family, Hans Moser, Manfred Deix, and, of course, the honorary grave of Udo Jürgens.
Please note that you will not see Falco's grave on this tour. His grave is located in the Gate 3 section.
Before leaving the Gate 2 section, you will take a fascinating guided tour of the cemetery church.
Now there is an approximately 15-minute walk, without commentary, to the Jewish section at Gate 1.
Did you know that, in the Jewish faith, the “place of graves” is the most important institution of the Jewish community, second only to the synagogue? Men need to wear a head covering. Magnificent and imposing tombs, combined with fascinating anecdotes from contemporary history. You may never emerge from the wonderment. With a little luck, you might even spot deer in the Old Jewish Section.
