In the heart of the Périgord Noir, between limestone cliffs and hilltop villages, the Dordogne flows at a pace that can only be truly appreciated by canoe.
This guided experience takes you from Vitrac to Beynac on a route of about 16 kilometers, designed to combine relaxation, discovery, and wonder.
It all starts at the Vitrac bridge, the meeting point where Gonzalo welcomes you and takes care of everything: providing the equipment, giving a safety briefing, and offering technical advice for both beginners and experienced paddlers. You don't need to bring anything; everything is included (except personal items such as a cap, glasses, appropriate footwear, etc.)
In a few minutes, you'll be on the water, paddle in hand, ready to let the calm current of the river dictate the pace of your day.
As you descend, Gonzalo becomes much more than just a tour leader.
With more than five years of experience as a private guide on the Dordogne and a genuine passion for the region, he shares his knowledge of the local flora and fauna, points out hidden spots that the untrained eye would not notice, and tells the story of this exceptional valley, ranked among the most beautiful landscapes in Europe.
One of the most unusual stops on the route is a visit to a Romanesque priory, accessible just 1.5 km on foot from the river.
A detour that is well worth it: the church's carved modillions, grotesque figures, and mysterious scenes carved in stone are a surprise every time. A discreet medieval treasure, known only to the initiated.
The stop at La Roque-Gageac is a free moment, at your own pace. This village, suspended between the cliff and the river, is one of the "Plus Beaux Villages de France" ("The Most Beautiful Villages of France"), and the label is well-deserved.
Stroll through the alleys, have lunch by the Dordogne or enjoy a picnic (not included) from your bag, watch the barges passing by... you'll return to the water with a calm mind and rested legs.
The final descent to Beynac-et-Cazenac takes place in the same atmosphere: anecdotes, walking stops, silence filled with the sound of the water. On arrival, a bus provides drop-off to your vehicle left in Vitrac, without any complicated logistics.
The experience is offered in French, English, and Spanish for groups of up to 10 people, ages 5 and up.
The participants' opinions are unanimous: Gonzalo is described as a Dordogne enthusiast who is attentive and able to adapt the pace to the group while enriching every moment with his deep knowledge of the area. An experience that, in the opinion of many travelers, remains the highlight of their stay in Périgord.
