Embark on an immersive day at the heart of South African history and culture, between urban modernity and historical heritage. This full-day tour allows you to discover the fascinating contrasts of Johannesburg and the vibrant soul of Soweto, a true symbol of the fight for freedom.

Schedule of the day:

Your day begins with a pick-up at your hotel with your French-speaking live guide. You will set off to discover Johannesburg, often called "the city of gold", in reference to the gold rush that marked its history. You will pass through its main districts, between modern skyscrapers and historic areas, while learning about the evolution of this dynamic metropolis.

The tour continues with the famous Apartheid Museum, a must-see to understand the history of South Africa. Through an immersive and emotional scenography, you will delve into the dark years of apartheid era and the struggle for freedom and equality.

Then head to Soweto (South Western Township), the country's most iconic township. You will explore its vibrant neighborhoods and discover the daily life of its inhabitants. A highlight of the tour is the passage through Vilakazi Street, famous for being the only street in the world to have been home to two Nobel Peace Prize winners: Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu.

You will have the opportunity to visit Mandela House (optional), the former residence of Nelson Mandela, now a museum. The tour continues with the Hector Pieterson Museum, which traces the key events of the 1976 Uprising, a major turning point in the struggle against apartheid.

A lunch break (optional) at a local restaurant will allow you to sample South African cuisine and enjoy an authentic experience in the heart of Soweto.

At the end of the day, return to Johannesburg with transport to your hotel, enriched with a better understanding of the country, its history and its cultural diversity.
