Product Info

Discover the natural beauty and rich history of Skadar Lake aboard a traditional wooden boat. Our tours are operated in small groups and led by an English-speaking local guide, offering a relaxed and authentic experience away from the crowds.

We depart from Virpazar and begin with a peaceful 10–15 minute cruise through a narrow canal, surrounded by water lilies, reeds, and lush vegetation. As you emerge from the canal, the stunning panorama of Skadar Lake stretches out before you, creating an unforgettable first impression.

Our first landmark is Grmožur Fortress, often called the "Montenegrin Alcatraz." Built in the 19th century on a small island, it once served as a prison during the reign of King Nikola. Today, its stone ruins rise from the lake and provide one of Skadar Lake's most recognizable and photographed sights.

Continuing across the lake, we'll pass Vranjina Island, the largest island on Skadar Lake. From the boat, you'll be able to admire the Church of St. Nicholas, beautifully positioned on the hillside and visible from a distance.

The cruise then continues towards the Morača River, passing the historic Lesendro Fortress. This area is famous for its floating carpets of water lilies and peaceful waterways that can only be reached by smaller traditional boats, allowing you to experience some of the lake's most untouched landscapes.

From there, we continue towards Čakovica and Andrijska Gora, where you'll cruise through quiet channels and pass small islands surrounded by unspoiled nature. This area is home to many of Skadar Lake's bird species, including pygmy cormorants, grey herons, little egrets, purple herons, and kingfishers. If you're lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the rare Dalmatian pelican, the symbol of Skadar Lake.

We'll stop for a refreshing swim before enjoying a relaxing cruise back to Virpazar.

Throughout the tour, refreshments are served on board, giving you the chance to relax and fully enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Skadar Lake.

This tour is the perfect combination of nature, history, wildlife, and local tradition, offering a deeper insight into Montenegro's largest national park.
