Leave the busy roads behind and discover a side of Montenegro that few visitors ever experience. This journey takes us deep into the country's hidden highlands, where mountain villages, family farms and centuries-old traditions still shape everyday life.
After picking you up from your accommodation, we'll leave the city behind and gradually climb into the mountains. As the road gains altitude, breathtaking viewpoints reveal Skadar Lake, the Zeta River, the Cijevna Canyon, the fertile Bjelopavlići Plain and, on clear days, even the distant peaks of Albania and the dramatic Prokletije Mountains.
We'll stop whenever the scenery deserves it—not because a timetable says so, but because some views simply shouldn't be driven past.
Our journey continues to a small family-run goat farm, where life still follows the rhythm of the seasons. You'll meet the animals, learn how local families have lived from this land for generations and hear stories about a way of life that is slowly disappearing. This isn't a tourist show—it's a genuine visit to people who still call these mountains home.
From there, we'll continue to the peaceful Bukumirsko Lake, one of Montenegro's hidden mountain gems. Surrounded by untouched nature and dramatic ridges, the lake is also home to one of the country's most fascinating legends, which I'll share as we enjoy the silence and fresh mountain air.
If you wish, we can end the day with an optional visit to a traditional stone household, where your hosts may prepare a tasting of homemade specialities such as local cheeses, honey, fresh juices, kačamak and other seasonal products sourced directly from the surrounding mountains. More than a meal, it's an opportunity to experience genuine Montenegrin hospitality, exchange stories with local people and discover flavours that have been part of family tables for generations.
Whether you choose the optional tasting or simply enjoy the landscapes, this tour offers something increasingly rare—a chance to slow down, breathe fresh mountain air and experience the quieter, more authentic Montenegro that still exists beyond the tourist routes.
