Caño Island is one of the best places to explore the underwater world in Costa Rica and is considered one of the top snorkeling and diving destinations in the world.
The tour begins at our office in Uvita, where your guide will welcome you, provide a briefing about the day’s activities, and offer a light snack including pastries, coffee, tea, or orange juice. Once the group is ready, we will walk approximately 300 meters to the beach within the Marino Ballena National Park, where we will board the boat.
The boat ride to Caño Island takes approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. Upon arrival at the protected waters surrounding the island, we will enjoy a minimum of two guided snorkeling sessions of approximately 45 minutes each, although the duration may be extended depending on sea conditions and the group's experience level.
Caño Island is home to an incredible variety of marine life, and during the snorkeling sessions it is possible to observe sea turtles, manta rays, reef fish, and many other species. During the whale migration seasons (December to March and July to October), humpback whales are often spotted during the boat journey to and from the island.
Between snorkeling sessions, we will take a short break and enjoy refreshments. Depending on weather and sea conditions, there may also be an opportunity to spend some time on the beach.
After completing the activities at Caño Island, we will return to Uvita, with the return boat ride taking approximately an hour and 20 minutes. Upon arrival, a delicious picnic-style lunch will be served at our Dolphin Tour facilities.
The tour starts at 7:00 a.m. and finishes at approximately 2:30 p.m., including boat transportation, snorkeling activities, wildlife observation opportunities, breaks, and lunch. This is why the experience is considered a full-day tour of approximately 7.5 to 8 hours.
After lunch, guests are welcome to relax at the beach or return to our office.
