Product Info

Meet your naturalist guide at Drake Bay’s main beach in the late afternoon and begin walking along the coastal trail in the direction of Cocalito. The route passes through sections of primary rainforest, where the remaining daylight provides opportunities to observe birds, reptiles, insects, and daytime mammals.

Look through the forest canopy and along the trail for animals that may still be active before sunset, including white-faced capuchin monkeys and tropical birds. Your guide will help you recognize animal calls, tracks, movements, feeding behavior, and other details that are easy to overlook without trained eyes.

As daylight fades, the rainforest begins to change. Temperatures cool, daytime animals become quieter, and nocturnal species start to emerge. Each participant receives a handheld flashlight for the nighttime portion of the walk.

Search tree trunks, branches, vegetation, and leaf litter for frogs, insects, spiders, reptiles, bats, sleeping birds, and other nighttime wildlife. Your guide will explain how these animals communicate, hunt, hide, and adapt to life after dark.

The group walks toward Cocalito, but reaching the beach is not required or guaranteed. The guide selects the turnaround point based on wildlife activity, weather, trail conditions, and the pace of the group.

The experience lasts approximately two hours and returns to Drake Bay’s main beach at around 7:00 PM.

Wildlife is completely wild, so sightings of particular animals cannot be guaranteed. Every tour offers a different experience depending on the season, weather, and natural activity.
