Join me on a journey back in time to the fascinating Belle Époque of Buenos Aires, an era of unprecedented wealth and profound social contrasts. As a history teacher, I will be your tour guide on this walking tour where we will discover how a peripheral village rapidly transformed into the "Paris of South America."

Our experience begins in the historic Plaza de Mayo, the epicenter of political and economic power. There, we'll learn about the vision of the Generation of '80 and how they demolished the colonial past to Europeanize the city. If you choose the full sensory experience, we will taste the sweet symbol of that transformation: the alfajor porteño, our "edible metaphor." Then, we will walk along the elegant Diagonal Norte and the mythical Florida Street, imagining the exclusive ritual of "footing" (seeing and being seen) of high society under domes of pure French inspiration.

As we move south, the landscape and history change dramatically. We'll pass by landmarks of progress such as Avenida de Mayo, but we'll also observe how that progress "clipped the wings" of the old colonial Cabildo, reflecting on the profound contradictions inherent in times of change.

Leaving bourgeois luxury behind, we'll immerse ourselves in the historic center of Buenos Aires and the other side of the Belle Époque coin: the world of immigrants. In front of a historic house in the Montserrat neighborhood, we'll discover how the old aristocratic mansions, abandoned after the tragic yellow fever epidemic of 1871, became crowded tenements. There, I'll tell you about the workers' rebellion that was brewing in the streets, a protest that marked the city's DNA. At this point, we'll take a sweet break to taste our famous "facturas" (local pastries) together and understand how they were born from an anarchist rebellion, with mocking names that defied those in power.

Finally, we'll reach the cobbled heart of San Telmo. For those who select the full option, we'll end our trip with a very Buenos Aires ritual: a vermouth tasting in a historic setting, toasting the contrasts of this metropolis. We'll finish the walk in Plaza Dorrego, reflecting on this clash of worlds – French luxury and the tenement – that forged the true mestizo identity of Buenos Aires.
