Know Before You Go: Visitors should have a valid passport, as it is required for identification when checking permits and entering trekking activities, especially for gorilla trekking. Gorilla permits must also be paid in advance and are strictly required before the trek.
Know Before You Go: The terrain is often steep, muddy, and slippery, so a moderate level of fitness is required. Weather is cool and rainy, so waterproof hiking boots, a rain jacket, and warm clothing are essential.
Know Before You Go: Trekking starts early in the morning, and animals move freely in the forest, so walking time can vary depending on their location.
Know Before You Go: Porters are highly recommended for carrying bags and giving support during the hike. If a visitor is unable to continue walking, porters can assist by carrying them in a traditional Rwandan stretcher known as “ingobyi”, ensuring safe completion of the trek.
