Product Info

Depart from Cambutal to visit one of Panama's most remote coastal areas. Visitors staying in Playa Venao or Pedasi can take this day trip by driving to Cambutal. Your captain will meet you there and take you along the southwest coast of the Azuero Peninsula. Cerro Hoya is a national park covering 32,557 hectares. This protected area stretches from the mouth of the Ventanas River, which is also a beautiful beach, to the mouth of the Restingue River, located on the other side of the park.

During the tour, you'll have the opportunity to observe marine life, including whales (in season, from June or July to October), dolphins, turtles, and many species of fish. Fishing can be added to the itinerary, as this area is excellent for tuna and even marlin fishing. The captain will take you to secluded beaches with tide pools and sea caves.

You will also venture into Cerro Hoya National Park. This hidden gem boasts several waterfalls, best visited during the rainy season or early summer. Keep in mind that water levels will be low during the summer. Various hiking options are available depending on the distance you wish to hike. The ecosystems within the park vary with altitude, with Cerro Hoya being the highest point. It is not possible to visit it on a day trip.

The isolation of Cerro Hoya National Park has allowed the forest to remain vast and wild. There is little human intervention, which means that many species of animals and plants thrive. More than 150 species of birds have been sighted in the park, including endemic species such as the yellow-rumped parrotlet. There are also endemic monkey species, such as the Azuero spider monkey and the Azuero and Coiba howler monkey. The park is home to many animal species, such as the puma and the ocelot, which are found nowhere else. Cerro Hoya National Park has more than 30 endemic plant species. This area is a true gem for those who enjoy flora and fauna.
