This city was firstly belongs to the Aryans then to Lord Buddha in 6th century who gives his first ceremon at Sarnath. Later this city was constructed by the Kings of kashi which are the followers of Lord Shiva. This city is destroyed by many muslim invaders and constructed again by hindu rulers. Later in the 16 th century this city will get some relief in the time of Mughal emperor Akbar who was the great lover of art and culture during his era. In 18th century this city was finally in the hands of British-India Government and again this city comes in his true shape.

This city is earlier known as kashi as the most important shrine of Lord Shiva (Kashi Vishwanath) was located on the banks of river Ganges. According to the Hindu mythology, this city was protected by Lord shiva and people believes if they die in this city his soul will straight reach in the protection of lord shiva.
