Meet your guide at the entrance of the castle and embark on a historical journey starting in the 3rd Century A.D., when the castle was built as a  Mausoleum for Emperor Hadrian. Through stories and fun facts, learn how the castle later became a fortress in the Middle Ages and was then turned into a prison, offices of the Vatican Treasury and Archive, and finally into the residence of the Popes during the Renaissance.

Discover the stories of Alexander the Great in the Hall of Paolina and uncover the myth of the Greek hero, Persus, in the Hall of Persus. Admire the collection of ancient arms, marbles, ceramics, and sculptures and stroll through the painting gallery with works by Carlo Crivelli, Luca Signorelli, and Dosso Dossifrom.
