Product Info

Produced by a pottery manufacturer that supplies the World Heritage site Ninna-ji Temple, this plan at 'Ninshu Utsuwa Gallery & Matcha Cafe' allows you to experience 'Utsuwa-sansui' (a miniature Karesansui) and enjoy matcha from Ippodo and Japanese sweets from Senbon Tamajuken. Located in a renovated Kyomachiya over 100 years old, you can easily experience Kyoto culture, including handmade pottery, the traditional townhouse atmosphere, matcha, Japanese sweets, and Karesansui.
Karesansui (Utsuwa-sansui) Experience
We have prepared a Karesansui space in the small courtyard beyond the 'hibukuro' (high ceiling chimney), a characteristic feature of Kyomachiya. Here, you can experience Ninshu's unique 'Utsuwa-sansui,' where you draw sand patterns with a special rake and place pottery to create your own design. You can also use seasonal flowers and small items to create your design, allowing you to express your own unique vision. There are no special rules, so please feel free to enjoy the experience.
Matcha and Japanese Sweets Experience
Choose your favorite bowl from 12 colorful matcha bowls, and our staff will whisk the matcha for you at the counter. You are welcome to watch the process right in front of you. Please relax and enjoy Ippodo's matcha and seasonal Japanese sweets from Senbon Tamajuken in your chosen bowl.
Kyomachiya and Pottery Gallery Experience
The shop retains the atmosphere of a Kyomachiya and features many historical exhibits, such as newspapers from 90 years ago. Also, at the pottery gallery, you can purchase colorful, practical pottery that is dishwasher and microwave safe, while still upholding the traditions of a supplier to the World Heritage Ninna-ji Temple.

Regarding cancellation of the event:

Although the garden is covered, it is outdoors, so the tour will proceed in light rain, but will be cancelled if there is a risk of guests getting wet, such as heavy rain.

Please note the following when participating in this course:

●Since the Karesansui (Utsuwa Sansui) is designed so that everyone can enjoy the same space, if it gets crowded, please take turns enjoying it. ●If there are any delays without prior notice, your reservation will be canceled 10 minutes after the start. ●The store is barrier-free, so wheelchairs and strollers are welcome, but please note that there are some passageways that are 60cm wide. ●Please refrain from bringing in large luggage. ●We cannot be held responsible for any trouble between customers. ●Please contact us if you wish to reserve the entire store. ●Children who cannot drink matcha can participate free of charge, but please let us know the total number of people when making your reservation.
