The museum cemented its place in art history in 1940 by acquiring Monet’s iconic Impression, Sunrise. It later became the universal legatee of the artist in 1966, inheriting the Giverny estate and an unprecedented collection of over a hundred canvases.

Many of these works were never shown during his lifetime and were exhibited for the first time here.   • The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm (until 9.00 pm on Thursday). Last admission 1 hour before closure. Closed on 1 May, 25 December, and 1 January.
