Combine two of Central Switzerland’s most iconic experiences—a breathtaking journey up Mount Pilatus and a scenic cruise on Lake Lucerne—into one unforgettable day.
Your adventure begins in Lucerne. Hop on Bus No. 1 (direction Kriens/Obernau) right outside the Lucerne train station. After just 11 minutes, you'll arrive at the “Kriens, Zentrum Pilatus” stop. A short walk leads you to the valley station of the panoramic cableway in Kriens.
Enjoy a picturesque 15-minute gondola ride to Krienseregg, where you can relax on the restaurant terrace (own expense) while the little ones explore the fun-filled Pilu Land playground. From there, continue another 15 minutes by cable car to Fräkmüntegg. Here, thrill-seekers can test their skills at the rope park or grab a bite at the self-service restaurant (activities and food at your own cost).
Next, board the spectacular Dragon Ride aerial cable car. With its sleek cockpit design and expansive windows, the 5-minute ascent feels like a helicopter flight as you soar toward the summit of Pilatus Kulm.
At the top, take in awe-inspiring views of Lake Lucerne and the surrounding Alpine peaks. Explore the panoramic gallery, soak up the sun on the terrace, or hike to one of the nearby peaks (just 5–10 minutes away). Savor local cuisine at the Hotel Bellevue or Hotel Pilatus Kulm (own expense), or set out on one of the many hiking trails that make Pilatus a paradise for nature lovers.
The descent is just as memorable. Ride the world’s steepest cogwheel railway—built in 1889—down to Alpnachstad, passing dramatic cliffs, rushing mountain streams, and vibrant alpine meadows. From Alpnachstad, it’s a short walk to the boat dock, where an hour-long cruise across the serene waters of Lake Lucerne awaits. The journey ends back in Lucerne, just steps from the train station.
The Golden Round Trip can also be done in reverse, starting with the boat cruise from Lucerne. Please be sure to check the seasonal timetables—especially for the boat schedule—before planning your visit.

- Check the timetable closely, especially for the boat connections (there are 2 - 5 boat departures per day)
- To avoid long waiting times on the cogwheel train between Alpnachstad and Pilatus Kulm (or vice versa), we recommend making a reservation at www.pilatus.ch/reservation
- The round trip can be done in both directions
- If you want to do the trip in the other direction, take the boat to Alpnachstad (dock no. 2) and show the voucher on the boat.
- Dress according to the weather, as it can be cold and windy at the summit.
- Young children travel for free (age 0 - 5 years)
- The child fare applies between 6 and 15 years.
- Choose the first-class ticket for a nicer boat ride: First-class ticket holders sit in the spacious upper deck of the boat and have a great view over the lake.
- Second-class ticket holders have a seat on the lower level of the boat.
- Please note that this is a self-guided tour where no guide will be waiting for you.
- Start your journey at the Lucerne train station. The voucher is valid for bus No. 1, for the cable car, the cogwheel train, and the boat.

Please note this is a self-guided tour, there is no guide waiting for you at bus stops.
You can redeem your voucher at the cable car station in Kriens (Schlossweg 1, 6010 Kriens) or at the cogwheel railway station (Brünigstrasse 2, 6053 Alpnachstad) in Alpnachstad.
After that, you can board the cable car at Pilatus-Bahnen station in Kriens or the cogwheel train in Alpnachstad.
Your Voucher is valid on the public bus 1 between Lucerne and Kriens and on the boat between Lucerne and Alpnachstad.
You do not need to exchange your voucher in advance to use the public bus and boat.
