Many people visit Sun Moon Lake as a day trip from Taichung, but to really appreciate Sun Moon Lake, I strongly recommend spending at least one, if not two nights there. The lake is especially beautiful in the early morning and early evening.

Why can't I swim in Sun Moon Lake?

You cannot swim in Sun Moon Lake due to safety reasons. Many boats cruise around the whole lake and the bed of the lake is full of silt, a kind of soft soil. In addition, the water is also for drinking purposes, and swimming activities might pollute the water.

How many days are recommended for a visit to Sun Moon Lake?

You should plan for two days (one night) at Sun Moon Lake to see the highlights, but you can also do it as a day trip for a quicker experience or stay for three days if you prefer a slower pace or wish to combine it with nearby attractions. A 1-Day trip is good for a quick visit to see the main sights like Wenwu Temple and biking along the lake, though it will be rushed. A 2-Day trip (1 Night) allows for a more relaxed exploration.
