San Lorenzo

A commercial transit of the entire Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway system typically takes about 8.5 days of sailing. However, actual travel times can fluctuate based on the vessel's speed, traffic, weather conditions, and the time spent navigating the 15 locks in the St. Lawrence Seaway and the five Soo Locks on the St. Marys River. The total distance from the Atlantic to Duluth, Minnesota, on Lake Superior is 2,038 nautical miles. Congestion at the locks and adverse weather can cause significant delays.

Saint Lawrence is primarily known for his martyrdom by roasting on a gridiron in 258 AD and his profound charity to the poor. Legend has it that during his execution, he uttered, "I'm well done on this side. Turn me over!" as a testament to his fortitude. As one of the seven deacons of Rome, he was dedicated to distributing his possessions to the needy. The meteor shower known as the Perseids is also famously called the "Tears of Saint Lawrence," symbolizing fiery tears falling from the sky.
