The trip started from Narita Airport and went directly to Shimoda in Shizuoka Prefecture, and then to Kamakura. The JR Tokyo Wide Pass can save a lot of transportation costs and can be used for three consecutive days, which is very convenient.
I came from Hiroshima to visit my cousin in Tokyo, and since I had the opportunity, I invited my cousin to extend our trip to visit the Tomioka Silk Mill, which I had been curious about. The Joshin Electric Railway train we took had a retro feel, and the town of Tomioka, where we arrived, also had a nice atmosphere. After enjoying the local specialty, okkirikomi udon, we finally entered the mill. Long brick buildings stretched out before us, conveying the atmosphere of the Meiji era. I was overwhelmed by the magnificent facilities inside the cocoon storage and reeling rooms. Thanks to the staff who gave us detailed explanations, I learned a lot. The wooden buildings scattered around, such as the company housing and the women's workers' dormitory, also evoke the past and have a lot of character. I was also able to receive a luxurious booklet with my World Heritage certification, which made me very happy. The people of Tomioka were also very kind. I'm so glad I came.
