Eretria was an important ancient Greek city founded on an excellent natural harbour. It was mentioned in Homer’s Iliad as a ‘City of Rowers’ which sent ships to the Trojan War. But after a long war with Chalkis over control of the fertile Lelantine Plain, it was defeated and destroyed. Ironically though, more ancient ruins have survived in Eretria than its rival Chalkis, therefore there is plenty to see.

The tour lasts approximately 3 hours
