Product Info

Nestled in the untouched countryside of Lazio, Subiaco is a city of profound spiritual depth, intellectual heritage, and quiet elegance.
Beyond the iconic Monastery of Saint Benedict and the Monastery of Saint Scholastica, Subiaco reveals a refined medieval center of stone alleyways, historic bridges, and a timeless atmosphere.
The Monastery of Saint Benedict is one of the most extraordinary monastic sites in Italy. Built directly into the rock face of the mountain, it seems to hang between the cliff and the sky. As visitors descend through different levels carved into the rocky mountainside, they discover a remarkable architectural masterpiece that grew around the cave where Saint Benedict lived as a hermit for three years.
The monastery preserves one of Italy’s most important collections of medieval frescoes, including the famous portrait of Saint Francis of Assisi, considered the oldest known image of the saint, painted during his lifetime or shortly after his visit to Subiaco. Combining breathtaking natural beauty, spirituality, art, and history, this unique place offers an unforgettable journey into the heart of medieval Italy.
Subiaco also holds a unique place in European cultural history. In 1465, the first printing press in Italy was established here by Arnold Pannartz and Konrad Sweynheym, making the town one of the birthplaces of the Renaissance spread of knowledge and learning.

The majestic Monti Simbruini, the largest mountain range in Lazio, form the spectacular natural backdrop of Subiaco. Covering more than 30,000 hectares of protected parkland, these mountains are known for their dense forests, crystal-clear springs, panoramic viewpoints, and traditional hilltop villages that preserve an authentic way of life.
As part of our experience, guests have the opportunity to enjoy a traditional lunch in one of the charming mountain towns nestled among the peaks of the Simbruini. Surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and fresh mountain air, this moment offers a genuine taste of local cuisine, culture, and hospitality while experiencing one of the most beautiful and unspoiled areas of central Italy.
A perfect day in Italy combines stunning churches, great art, breathtaking nature, and a fantastic lunch prepared with authentic local flavors1 <3
