Admire the elegance of the Auttijoki River trapped within an ancient gorge covered in ice and snow. From the observation tower, watch how the deep silence of the true Arctic rests on the pine-covered hills.

Feel the magical atmosphere of the snowy Arctic forest and read its stories through animal tracks imprinted in the snow. Warm up with traditional hot drinks and snacks prepared over an open fire.

This tour lasts approximately 7 hours and covers a total hiking distance of 5–6 km. It is an easy-level hike, suitable for beginners with a basic level of fitness. During the hiking the guide will show the best spots for taking photos and Treasures sightseeing of those areas.

Some ascending and descending is involved, making it ideal for nature lovers, photographers, first-time Arctic hikers, and travellers seeking an authentic and safe winter wilderness experience in Lapland.

The trip begins with free pick up from your accomodation whithin 10 km of Rovaniemi city centre. Then we are about to visit the Auttiköngäs nature trail, where we explore its main highlights during a short and easy hike of approximately 2.5 km. Before starting, your guide will explain the basic principles of hiking on snowy and icy terrain to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

Auttiköngäs is famous for its beautiful gorge, the never-frozen rushing waterfall, and stunning views over the snowy Arctic valley from the observation tower on Könkäänvaara Hill.

The surrounding forest is home to various animals—if you’re lucky, you may spot reindeer, Arctic hares, foxes, or birds such as the Siberian jay, or at least their tracks in the snow.

Next, we head to Korouoma Canyon to discover its frozen treasures—the famous frozen waterfalls. The hike here is about 2.5–3 km. We follow the safest route to see two impressive icefalls, Brown River and Mammut.

The trail includes gentle descents and ascents on snowy and icy paths through pine and spruce forests. Along the way, admire ancient Ice Age cliffs covered in ice and snow, and the narrow river at the canyon bottom, occasionally revealing its brown waters beneath fresh snow.

We finish the hiking adventure with the traditional snacks cooked over the open fire. Your guide will demonstrate how to chop wood and explain how to make different types of fire. After the BBQ, we will drop you off at your accommodation.
