Product Info

Norðurflug Helicopter Tours, the oldest and largest helicopter operator in Iceland, is offering a sightseeing flight to the most recent eruption site in Reykjanes.
*Please keep in mind that eruptions are an event of nature and may or may not be active during your tour and we can‘t guarantee that you will see lava flowing.

The 2021 eruption started on March 19th and lasted for six months. The eruption was the first eruption in Reykjanes Peninsula since the 14th century.

On August 3rd, 2022 a new eruption started and a new crater started forming and new lava got added to the already extensive lava plateau.

The eruption that started on July 10, 2023, was the third eruption in three years on Reykjanes Peninsula and lasted only 4 weeks. This eruption was by Mt. Litli-Hrútur between Mt. Fagradalsfjall and Mt. Keilir.

On this flight, you get to explore the area from the air with the bird's eye view, see all the beautiful colors, and massive size of the craters, and enjoy the surrounding scenery.

The total duration of the tour is 35–50 min with a landing (landing at the site depends on weather, wind, air traffic, and volcanic gas conditions).
