Begin your evening beside the Louis II Stadium in Monaco, in the modern district of Fontvieille, before setting off on one of the most scenic coastal walks of the French Riviera.
Within minutes, you will cross the border on foot from Monaco into France, leaving the Principality behind and entering Cap-d’Ail. From here, the atmosphere changes completely: dramatic Mediterranean coastline, hidden coves, turquoise water and a peaceful coastal path stretching between the sea and some of the Riviera’s most remarkable historic villas.
As we follow the famous Sentier du Littoral, you’ll discover a side of the Riviera that many visitors never see. The route reveals fascinating geological traces, including the remains of Cap-d’Ail’s ancient extinct volcanic activity. Around Pointe des Douaniers, volcanic andesite rocks of different colours and textures can still be observed, dating back millions of years and creating a landscape quite different from the limestone cliffs normally associated with this part of the Côte d’Azur.
You’ll hear stories about Sacha Guitry, the celebrated French actor and playwright who owned Villa Les Funambules, one of Cap-d’Ail’s most iconic residences. The area was also connected with the Lumière brothers, pioneers of cinema, who owned magnificent villas here.
We’ll also discover the Cap-d’Ail connection with Winston Churchill, who regularly stayed at Villa La Capponcina as a guest of his friend Lord Beaverbrook. Churchill loved the area so much that he was later named honorary mayor of Cap-d’Ail.
Along the way, we’ll pass panoramic viewpoints, Mediterranean vegetation, Belle Époque architecture and secluded stretches of coastline where Monaco slowly disappears behind us and the French Riviera opens ahead.
The experience ends in one of the most atmospheric settings of the coast with a gourmet sunset picnic prepared by Italian International Executive Chef Simon Maringoni.
After years of experience in international fine dining and Michelin-level kitchens, Chef Simon brings restaurant-style creativity into an intimate outdoor setting. Expect a beautifully presented selection of Mediterranean and Italian-inspired flavours, prepared especially for the experience and served against the backdrop of the Mediterranean Sea.
Sit back, enjoy the sunset and finish the walk with a relaxed gourmet dinner as the Riviera changes colour around you.
This experience is particularly suited to couples and special occasions: anniversaries, romantic dinner dates, birthdays, honeymoon moments, proposals, surprises or simply an unforgettable evening during your stay on the Côte d’Azur.
It is more than a walking tour: it combines two countries, Riviera history, volcanic geology, Belle Époque glamour, Mediterranean landscapes and a private-chef picnic into one memorable sunset experience.
